Yesterday, L was playing with some little toys at the table. I heard him go quiet, and it got my attention. He was standing there smiling and watching me.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm playing," he answered.
And then one of his little men said to the other, "Au revoir."
He stopped, looked at me for a reaction, and smiled again.
"Good! You're speaking French! You're proud!"
The smiles broadened. "Uh huh," he replied and said it again.

M is getting quite a lot of attention when we are out and about. Today the sweeper at our lunch place was talking to her and smiling at her. L said, "Say bonjour, M. M can't speak French, but I can."
